In this article there will be a listing of a series of clothing pieces and accessories along with hair and astheticspo, welcome to the Fashion truths downtown style girl guide of 2025<3

Tops

Anything can really work if styled correctly, you could go vintage or modern day, whatever your preferences are. Personally I believe red is a bold colour that gives downtown girl outfits more of a flare but other colours like brown, grey, black, blue and even green go well in terms of tops! The aim is to create a flow in the overall look, perceived as well put together but not over the top with a short relaxed vibe. Baby girl doll tops in the summer and long sleeved Henley's in the winter is the way to go, you can create a cycle and plan ahead for the seasons, there are no rules only preferences and iconic identifications!

Ribbed baby tees (white, grey, or graphic print)

Fitted tank tops (especially black, white, or slate)

Cropped long sleeve tops

Slouchy off-shoulder knits

Sheer mesh long sleeves (layered under/over other pieces)

Graphic vintage band tees (oversized or cropped)

Button-up shirts (oversized, often striped or white)

Layered camis over tees or long sleeves

Leather bustiers or corset tops

Halter neck tops (especially in earthy/dark tones)

Lace-trim camisoles (can be worn alone or layered)

Leggings

Flared / Bootcut Leggings

Pleated Mini Skirts

Black Cargo Skirts

Shoes

Converse is one of the most popular style of shoes that has been with the downtown style since day one, However there are many other shoes that have potential.

One of the most underrated shoes that hold potential are the iconic black heeled Ugg's, its a potential staple for all outfits downtown that include skirts and stockings or even tights. They hold slight elegance while not being seen as over the top which is one of the major factors downtown style. any late night walks or library, cafe or other hangouts in afternoons these shoes fit perfectly in my overall opinion.

Other shoes like boots and more detailed shoes with the key colours can compliment the outfit as well! Vintage shoes, new modern day converse its completely up to you.

Accessories

big wired headphones

arm warmers/shrugs

claw clips x messy hair

mini bags or slouchy shoulder bags

leg warmers/slouchy socks

non basic tote bags

ribbons or bows

belts

slightly chunky jewelry

vintage jewelry

THE necklace that has emotional value (preferably a pendant)

Homemade bracelets wit downtown themed charms

Accessories can fix any outfit, it also plays an important role in tying everything together, Coco Chanel once along some lines said "before leaving the house to look in the mirror and take one thing off." Since the motto of downtown style is to look put together but at the same time look as if you did not try I feel as if this saying is useful, before leaving the house I highly recommend removing one accessory of your choosing to truly gain one step closer to the overall idea of the aesthetic.

hair<3

wolfcut

butterfly cut

soft layers

wispy curtain bangs

wavy mid length cut

long messy layers

face framing pieces

dont flat iron to much, natural texture is your best friendxx

low frizz is ok dont worry about being perfect

claw clip hairstyles

braids

half up half down

Overall the aim is to have a hair style that YOU like and makes you feel confident while not being to much for you to maintain personally. If you enjoy and are not afraid of styling then go for more bold ones if you wish! Remember not all of these cuts need to be heat styled if your hair is naturally curly or wavy, you could always use sea salt sprays or other melodies such as heatless curls. You don't even need to commit to a certain haircut, natural always gives downtown just as much as a good cut.

Jackets

Oversized Leather Jackets

Bomber Jackets

Denim Jackets (oversized or cropped)

Faux Fur or Shearling Coats

Puffer Jackets

Trench coats (the baddass kind)

Vintage thrift Jackets always have an old timeless vibe for downtown, you can go to your local thrift store or ask relatives if they have any old vintage jackets they would be happy to give up if not worn anymore.

THE underrated sweater of the centuries

A Cable knit sweater with a diamond pattern in red/Vintage cable knit jumper dark red is one personal staple I have, I pair it with flared jeans or a skirt with high rise stockings and my heeled UGGs from before. I believe it holds a cozy timeless casual but classy vibes. Bonus points if it has the demand pattern look in the following image in the middle as shown. Its like wearing pure gold in the winters in my personal opinion!

Oversized Knit Sweaters

Chunky Cable Knits

Cropped Cardigans

 Half-Zip or Quarter-Zip Sweaters

Graphic/College Crewnecks

Sweater vests (ether fitted or tucked into skirts)

I hope you enjoyed this short starter guide on downtown clothes, thankyou so much for reading Fashion truths it means a lot<3
